Importing from Splitwise into Allotti

Importing from Splitwise brings the expenses of a group and the balances between people into Allotti: the person importing is one person only and the balances are checked before anything is written.

What you need

The Splitwise CSV of the group. The import is done from a computer, in the web app.

The steps

  1. Open Accounts. On your computer open Accounts. Drag the CSV onto the register of an account, or tap Import and choose the file.
  2. Choose the file. Allotti recognises the Splitwise export from the content. A file that is not one cannot be read.
  3. Who is who. You see the people in the file, one per column. Only one is the person importing: tap That is me, choose a contact, or New contact.
  4. The group. Write the name of the group, choose the type and the currency.
  5. Check. Allotti rebuilds the balances from the expenses and compares them with the total balance of the file, currency by currency, to the cent. If they do not match, Import stays off: nothing is written.
  6. Import. The expenses of the group are written, with the number in the button. After the import, the balance of the group appears in People.

An example

The group Cene e gite has 312 expenses. Claudio, the person importing, is owed 10.00 € and Marco owes 10.00 €. The check rebuilds the 312 expenses: if the balances match to the cent, Import 312 expenses is on. After the import, People shows the balance of the group: "You are owed 10.00 €".

Questions

An expense was paid by more than one person: how is it imported?

Allotti does not rebuild the split of that expense: only the balance that comes out of it between the people is imported.

What happens to the rows at zero?

They stay out of the movements to create.

The group has two currencies?

Each currency has its own decimals and its own total balance, and the check is done currency by currency. A currency without a total balance in the file does not pass the check.

A row does not add up to zero?

That row is not imported and the check does not pass: nothing is written.
