Goals, one per envelope
Every envelope (a category with no group, a group, a part) can have a goal. You do not have to: Casa Cortina, for example, has no goal.
A goal in one sentence
A goal does not move money: it says how much is needed this month.
Next to the goal you find usually: the goal says how much you want to spend, usually says how much you spend. If the two differ a lot, the app lets you know.
The five types
| Type | What it asks for this month |
|---|---|
| Every month | The amount you chose, minus what you have already assigned in the month |
| Every week | The weekly amount, in proportion to the days of the month |
| By a date | What is missing, divided by the months left, the month of the date included |
| Minimum balance | What is needed so that the available does not fall below the amount |
| Percentage of income | A percentage of each income of the chosen categories, when it arrives |
Percentage of income is off for everyone and is switched on with the pro package.
A worked example with the November numbers
- Groceries, €600 every month. You assigned €600.00: the goal is funded.
- Luca's 18th birthday, €1,200 by June. Eight months are left, so the instalment is €150.00 a month. By assigning €150.00 the row says 150 of €1,200 by June and it is funded.
- Emergency fund, minimum balance €500. The available is €500.00: the row says ok. If you spend, the goal asks again for the difference.
Edge cases
- A goal does not move money. To assign, use the Assigned cell or Assign, which with the source According to goals brings every envelope to what it asks for.
- By a date. What counts is what you have put in, not what is left: spending does not reopen it. If you fall behind, the instalment goes up.
- Minimum balance. What counts is the balance: if you spend, the goal rebuilds what is missing.
- In timed groups there is no usually: the reference is the goal.
Where to find it in the app
On the computer, open the Budget: under the name of every row there is the goal with its state (funded, to fund, ok, below). The To fund filter shows the rows where the goal is not reached.
